Gustav Nestor Externwebben - SLU

This section of Glycobiology provides a venue featuring manuscripts describing important new research and developments in computational methodology that are required for modern glycobiology, along with robust analytic data sets that utilize or inspire these tools. Browse the Glyco-Informatics section This conference has been deferred to 2023 due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check back soon for the 2023 schedule. The Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Glycobiology is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting-edge ideas.

Journal of Glycobiology is a peer reviewed journal that publishes studies related to structure, biosynthesis, biology and functions of different saccharides, glycans, oligosaccharides or the different proteins which interact with the glycans. Journal of Glycobiology is a Open Access Scientific Journal that offers an interesting publishing platform globally and aims to keep scientists, researchers, and students informed and updated on the ongoing research in the relevant area. Advances in genomics, glycoproteomics and tools from chemical biology have made glycobiology more tractable and understandable. Dysregulated glycosylation plays a major role in disease processes Glycobiology encompasses the study of the complex sugars found attached to proteins and cell membranes as well as the receptors that recognise them.

One focus within this theme is structural characterisation of such glycans, using mass spectrometry as a primary tool. Systems of particular interest include glycobiology of host/pathogen and host/ commensal interactions, basic metabolism impacting on glycosylation, glycobiology of mammalian fertilization and reproduction and plant cell wall Research. We have two areas of research: Glycoimmunology and Microbial Glycobiology.

Glycobiology is an integrative science, crossing the fields of chemistry, biology, medicine, and materials science. Defined in the broadest sense, glycobiology is the study of the structure, biosynthesis and biology of glycans (carbohydrates). N-Glycans are covalently attached to protein at asparagine (Asn) residues by an N-glycosidic bond. Although diverse sugars are attached to Asn in prokaryotes (Chapters 21 and 22), all eukaryotic N-glycans begin with GlcNAcβ1–Asn and are the focus of this chapter.

Once considered merely supporting structures, the sugars have now been widely recognized to be a vital components in running the complex machinery of life itself. Glycobiology encompasses the study of the complex sugars found attached to proteins and cell membranes as well as the receptors that recognise them. One focus within this theme is structural characterisation of such glycans, using mass spectrometry as a primary tool.
